Don't just meet them. Come behind the scenes and see how we're teaching them.

Our most immersive Preview Experience gives you proper time with our friendly young cattle while some of them are right in the middle of learning the skills they'll need for the future.

You'll groom them, fuss them, meet the wider herd and discover how we're using calm, patient halter training to build confidence and trust.

And when the cow, weather and circumstances are right, you may get involved yourself.

What happens on your visit:

1. Meet your Tiny Cows host

We'll begin with an introduction to the farm and a short safety briefing before heading into the cattle area. Because this is a Preview Experience, you're seeing Tiny Cows Yorkshire while we're still building it.The farm will therefore look rather more farm-like than visitor-attraction-like. Exactly as intended.

2. Meet our young cattle

You'll start with some of our friendliest youngsters. We'll introduce them individually and tell you about their personalities, their breeding and where they've reached in their training. You'll quickly discover that there is no such thing as “the cows”.  They all have slightly different ideas about how the day should proceed.

3. Groom, fuss and build trust

Spend time brushing and stroking them while we explain why calm, regular handling matters. We'll show you how we build trust rather than simply expecting a young animal to do what it's told. Finding the correct scratching spot also helps enormously.

4. Discover how halter training works

We'll introduce you to some of the basics behind our halter training. That might mean learning to stand quietly, responding to gentle pressure and release, or beginning to walk calmly beside a handler. Every youngster is at a different stage. One may walk beautifully. Another may decide that three steps represents quite enough professional development for one afternoon.

5. Have a go yourself

Where the individual cow and your own confidence make it appropriate, you'll have the opportunity to get involved with some simple halter work. You may even get to lead one of our youngsters for a short distance. There is never any pressure to do this — for you or the cow.

6. Meet the youngest Miniature Herefords

We'll introduce you to some of the youngest members of our Miniature Hereford herd and show you where they've reached in their own training journey. Some may simply be learning that a halter is nothing to worry about. Others may be beginning to take their first steps.

7. Meet and feed the wider herd

We'll finish the cow part of your visit by introducing you to more members of Tiny Cows Yorkshire and offering approved treats to suitable cattle. Then comes the difficult part... Leaving.

This is not a cow performance.

We don't teach our cattle tricks or make them complete an activity because customers are watching.

This is an opportunity to see how we actually work with them.

That means the exact experience changes.

Some days a young cow may walk beautifully on the halter.

Another day, standing calmly and confidently may be the biggest success.

With cattle, progress isn't always measured in distance.

A proper working-farm preview.

Our cows are living animals rather than attractions on a timetable.

Who takes part and exactly how much interaction they fancy can change according to their health, temperament and welfare on the day.

We will never make an animal participate simply because something was written on an itinerary.

We work at the cows' pace. We think that's part of what makes spending time with them special.
